Gunna’s live performance for Amazon Music was melodically mesmerizing involving renditions of his most popular songs performed by him and a live onstage band. The venue was set with a green ambiance, fun afrobeat mixes to enjoy while waiting, and interactive displays for fans to engage with.
With a roar of applause, Gunna started his set exploding the studio into a fit of excitement and awe. The artist began his performance by breaking through a pair of black gates at the back of the stage and rapping into the camera advancing towards the audience.
The 31-year-old rapper danced around the stage engaging with his fans by moving to different sections to rap to them directly. At times, he would stop to dedicate certain songs to the ladies in the crowd creating a very interactive experience with his audience. He kept his performance very high energy moving around in a studded black leather jacket, leather pants, and chunky boots with shades on the entire show. Insane drip.
This look was styled by Bobby Wesley who frequently works with the rapper on many projects, one of those being his most recent tour looks. Wesley’s current fashion collaborations with Gunna have provided us with many heavy leather biker moments with a bit of a Western feel to it. This hardstyle melted entrancingly into the soft backgrounds and ambiance of his stage set designs on his tour and in last night’s live performance.
Along with his style setting the tone for a top-tier concert, the live band was a significant factor as well. As fans are used to the exact beats and flow of the songs they’ve listened to regularly, hearing and seeing them come together in real time was enthralling, to say the least. Some so many different individuals go into creating and producing one song that to somewhat see it all come together in that moment was a tiny glimpse behind the curtain for us spectators. It gave me a newfound appreciation for rap music as a whole to hear the raw version of live instruments; they are so often overlooked for the massive role they not only play in the composition of music but the overall vibe and aesthetic that listeners take away from a piece of work.
The set design also contributed to the magical ambiance with flowers of white and royal blue flooding the stage and flickers of lightning flashes on the deep blue backdrops. Near the ending of the show, Gunna stood on a moving bed of flowers that forged him forward from the back to the front of the stage imparting us with a cinematic moment.
Not only were his fans enjoying seeing their favorite artist live, but they were also being visually stimulated by all the elements conjuring up in front of their eyes. It was so clear while being there that much thought and care was put into providing Amazon music listeners with an inspiring and invigorating show to remember. It most certainly set the tone for future live performances that the right amount of attention to detail towards different elements in a production can create an unforgettable moment in time that inspires an audience. And inspired we were.
